From Needing Rain to Too Much Rain

The neurologist told me several weeks ago that I can participate in any activity, that I will only be limited by the amount of pain I can tolerate. She indicated I will live with pain for the rest of my life. This morning I found out one activity that aggravates the herniated disc, bringing back a level of pain I was hoping wouldn't rear its ugly head.

We've had a lot of rain over the last few weeks. One day recently I had a river running through my side yard because the drain next to the street simply couldn't handle the amount of rain falling. I figured that particular day I would be in the basement, wet vaccing water. I've not had water in the basement for several years now, ever since adjusting the gutters and down spouts. I knew, though, that the amount of rain that day was going to be enough to send some water into my basement. There was some, but not all that much, and Angel Baby vacced it up for me.

Last evening it started raining and it rained all night then all morning this morning. I knew with all the rain over the past week there would be more water in the basement since the ground is saturated. When I checked a few hours ago, the water was trickling across the concrete floor. I went to work vaccing it up. After one tank of water, my leg was talking to me. Too much bending over, something the chiropractor told me to avoid at all costs.

Now I'm taking a break to see if my leg settles down. There will be more water to deal with, and I'm trying to figure out how to do it without having to bend over. I'm thinking I might just put a chair in a couple of spots so I can sit and move the wand. It'll take longer to get the job done, but if it means avoiding causing pain, that's perfectly fine. I've been feeling so good, with very little pain in my leg, and I'd like to keep it that way.

A river runs through my yard. This happened ten days
ago, and we've had rain several days since, saturating
the ground to the point I now have water trickling into
the basement. I keep telling myself to put a sump pump
in, but since I haven't had an issue for three or four years
now, it just doesn't seem to be all that urgent.
