Getting Close to Spring Break

Image
Less than two weeks to the beginning of spring break. Aye yi yi. Time just keeps on slipping by. I'm okay with this, though, because for my spring break I'll be setting off for Nebraska! Yep, you read that right. Nebraska. Most people head south to warmer weather. Me? I head west, to a state that could experience a blizzard during the time I'll be there. But hey, that's what adventure is all about, right? My spring break adventure is a short trip to experience the spectacle that is the Sandhill Crane migration . I've booked an overnight stay in a blind on the Platte River, so hopefully I'll witness some serious crane behavior that happens at dusk and then again at dawn. I'm so stoked for this. The only thing I really need to get before my trip is some long johns. I have everything else thanks to the backpacking trip in Iceland. When I bought all the gear for Iceland, I worried over paying for things that might not be used all that often, so it's re

Iceland: Conclusion Part II (The End of Iceland, I Promise)

After breakfast, Angel Baby and I lounged around in the room, neither one of us in too big a hurry to go anywhere. We had the whole day, and night since it didn't get dark, to explore the city, or at least the part of the city surrounding our hotel. I'm totally happy with having photos and memories, but Angel Baby wanted a few things that would remind him of our time in Iceland. We found the street with all the gift shops just a block away from the hotel and made our way through the shops as we moved up the street. Angel Baby found gifts fo

Iceland: Conclusion Part I

So I totally neglected the blog through January. Such as it is, here is the first part of the conclusion to our Iceland adventure. *** A map that shows the route we hiked. I returned to Angel Baby, who had picked out our campsite for the night. He made sure to find one with plenty of large stones we could use to anchor down our tent stakes in case the wind came up during the night. Once we had the tent set up, our sleeping bags unrolled, and our packs stowed on the once side of the tent, we both were ready to snuggle into our sleeping bags and call it a day. I vaguely remember hearing other campers laughing and singing and playing music well into the night that didn't seem like night because it didn't get dark, but I know for sure I fell asleep and slept hard. The next morning, I crawled out of the tent while Angel Baby slept. A gray, foggy day welcomed me. I grabbed my camera and set off for the hot springs and the lava field. We had all day at the campground since
