Grandma Wallpaper

That's what Angel Baby said when he walked in after work and saw the wallpaper I'd spent three hours putting on one wall of the dining room. He said something similar about the glasses I chose a couple of years ago when my prescription had changed. "Those are granny glasses," he had said. After the comment about the wallpaper, I told him my choices are my way of making a grandchild happen. So far I've had no luck.

Maybe one day.

I happen to love the wallpaper and how it has changed the look of the dining room. It adds a lovely touch to the space, breaking up the pale yellow that is on the dining room and living room walls. I love the pale yellow, but the one wall that is now different gives the eye more to look at. One of my favorite things to do now is sit in my chair in the living room and look towards the dining room. The new crystal chandelier and the new table along with the wallpaper have freshened up the space.

Now I'm searching for a cabinet with glass front doors to put against the wall. I also need a few more chairs to put at the table. It'll probably take me the rest of the summer to finish things up. There's definitely no rush.

Today I had my first acupuncture experience. I truly enjoyed it. Very relaxing. My doctor said I might experience some effects of the treatment tomorrow, so I'm curious to see how I feel. He used twelve needles today, starting with one on the fleshy part between my thumb and index finger of my left hand. That was the only needle that cause discomfort, but after about five minutes the discomfort disappeared. The remaining fifteen minutes was quite soothing. I'll do a few more treatments over the next two weeks to see if they help ease some of the pain in my leg. If it appears there is no difference in the pain level, we'll turn to gentle adjustments of the spine.

The pain is actually quite manageable now. Most days it's at a 1 or 2 on the pain-level chart, and I don't feel the need to take anything for it. I'm sleeping really well, too, which I believe is incredibly important to healing. My hope is the healing continues and eventually I realize one day the pain is gone. That might be very wishful thinking, though.

I did run Sunny during training last Saturday. I was terrified, wondering if my right leg could take it, if my knee would buckle from the pressure. Sunny is now 60 pounds and is very strong. When he finds the trail he takes off hard and it's all I can do to keep him in check. He found the trail quickly and it was either I run to keep up or let go of the line. I ran until I could get him under control. Then it was a fast walk, which is what we want. At another point he lost the trail, and when he found it again he took off like a thoroughbred lunging from the starting gate. I had to run again to keep up. Not long after, he found the subject. My back felt fine. My right leg felt fine. My knee held up under the pressure.

It felt so good to be back running trails with Sunny.

Now I'm ready to really focus on strengthening my leg, which I've been slowly working on each day. I lost so much muscle during the first eight weeks of the herniated disc, and there was a time when I couldn't lift my foot to cross my ankle over my left thigh. That was frustrating. I also couldn't lift my right leg without my thigh cramping terribly. I can now bring my ankle up to my thigh, which is a huge win, and I can lift my right leg without my thigh cramping. Hopefully, my leg will continue to get stronger over the next few weeks and months.
