Fall Has Finally Shown Up
The weather has finally cooled off. I'm so ready for fall, and the 70-80+ degrees was killing me. Give me 50's and below, please. I need my sweaters, sweatshirts, and sweatpants. I keep saying I'm going to move further north. I need to follow through, move to Wisconsin or northern Michigan. Maybe Minnesota. I like summer with the heat, the sweat, the cold showers, but I love the cool of fall and the cold of winter. I love wrapping myself in a fleece blanket and sitting out on the porch in the mornings, with my cup of hot coffee, watching the steam rise.
I also love making soup and homemade bread. My kitchen is a mix of odor right now. On the stove is acorn squash soup in the making. A holiday candle is going near the sink. I really don't know why I lit the candle. It just seemed like a fun thing to do while I stood and washed the dishes. It's time to blow it out and let the soup fill the house with thyme and nutmeg. Soon the bread will be in the oven to add its delicious, warm smell to the air.
I've been trying to do the fall house cleaning, but so far not much has been accomplished. Two of the five ceiling fans have been wiped of the dust and dog hair. I washed two of the many windows that need to be rid of the summer dust followed by the harvest dust. Still a lot to do and no gumption to do it. I finally put the sheets back on my bed. I washed then hung them outside to dry a few days ago. When I brought them inside, I just laid them on the dresser where they stayed for too long. I'm not a fan of sleeping on just the mattress, but I did it. I simply had no desire to make the bed. But it is made now, and the sheets smell like fresh air.
At the moment, I'm waiting for the trail I set for Sunny to age a bit, just an hour. I'm thinking it might be time to let the trails age a bit longer. When I set a trail, I try to be sneaky about it. Sunny seems to know when I'm setting a trail and he gets so excited. He absolutely loves it when I tell him, "Go to work." The trails have been getting longer, with a turn, and having to go into higher grass. He's done great with everything I've asked him to do. This week, I'm focusing on working in the higher grass.
I had to take him to the vet yesterday to get weighed. With the weather still being on the warmer side, he needs to continue his flea, tick, and heartworm medication, but I didn't know how much he weighs, so I couldn't just call and have the vet fill the request. He is now at 40 pounds. This Saturday he'll be six months old. What I've found online says Sunny is at the low end of what a six month old male yellow lab should weigh. The vet didn't say anything, and I can't see his ribs when he's standing, so I don't think his weight is an issue. I think he's just going to be a smaller yellow lab, which is fine.
As I sit here writing this, the boys are enjoying a nap. The house is quiet. Really quiet now that all the windows are closed against the cooler temps. Maybe I'll take a page out of their book and settle in for an afternoon nap myself.
